Midnight Forum Rules

I want to write this post to share my experience with this forum, and hopefully this will help improve it a bit.

I joined the forum yesterday and thought it was a great idea to write a new post and share the new Whiteboard Video from Charles about Midnight. It was just released, so I believed it would be great to draw the attention of everyone interested in this technology, as it paints a clear picture of what the project is trying to solve. It’s a phenomenal piece of work, and anyone interested in this technology should see it.

However, immediately after posting it, I was automatically blocked by the forum system. As it turned out, posting any kind of link results in an instant ban - something I didn’t know, and something I couldn’t have imagined would violate the forum’s terms and conditions.

After waiting some time, hoping someone would notice and unblock my account, I decided I should reach out directly to the forum moderators to explain the situation. Unfortunately, once you’re blocked, you cannot communicate in any way; all outbound communication channels are disabled. I tried contacting them via DM, posting in the general chat, and searching for any other method within the forum to reach support, but nothing worked. So once you’re blocked, there is no support mechanism or way to appeal to a moderator - you are effectively “censored” permanently, or at least until someone manually reviews your case. In my situation, I had to contact a moderator via DM on X, hoping they would see my message and reinstate my account, which thankfully happened fairly quickly.

So, to sum up, I want to raise two separate points:

  1. There should be a way for forum users to post links. It’s nearly impossible to start any meaningful conversation or topic without being able to provide references. What can be discussed in a forum if it functions like a silo? The internet is built on links. Users may want to share video materials, blog posts, articles about Midnight, information about upcoming events, blockchain news, GitHub code, and more.

  2. There should be a way for blocked users to contact moderators or access some form of support or ticketing mechanism to appeal their case. Otherwise, users can only wait and hope their account is reinstated - without any email notification or other way of knowing when it happens.

Sorry this happened to you. I have been recommending new Discourse user to do the tutorial and interact with @discobot , This way you are familiar with how to interact. By doing the tutorial you level up in security and are able to interact on a much broader level. Sorry I am just seeing this now.
